About Me

Hi, I’m Beth Stensvold — a children’s book author and illustrator who loves turning small wonders into big stories.

I write happy storybooks like What Do Worms Do in Winter?, Hunting the MAYBEE, and Hippos Are Fun! — each one filled with humor, imagination, and a touch of wonder. My goal is simple: to bring more smiles to storytime, whether it’s in a classroom, a library, or on the couch at home.

📚 My Journey

I taught science to middle & high school students for 34 years. I love encouraging young minds to think about the wonders of the world around them and to notice the little details of the world; bees buzzing in the garden, worms wiggling through the soil, birds singing in the trees. Those tiny moments inspired me to start writing stories that spark curiosity and laughter in young readers.

When I’m not writing, you’ll usually find me gardening in Sheboygan, Wisconsin (watching for hummingbirds!), spending time with my family, or playing with colors & shapes in digital collages that become my illustrations.

🎨 My Favorites

  • Favorite snack: popcorn

  • Favorite animal: hippos (of course!)

  • Favorite season: all of the colors and aromas of FALL

  • Favorite childhood book: Shadow Castle by Marian Cockrell

  • Favorite thing to do: Watch the birds and insects in my garden
